
A 65-year-old grandfather in Baguio City died after being hit by a pick-up truck while he was walking near his house on Marcos Highway.
According to the report, around Saturday, April 12, 2025, the victim was about to buy water when he was suddenly hit by a vehicle driven by a driver who was allegedly blindsided or dozing off while traveling. Due to the speed of the incident, the old man was thrown and crashed into a wall even though he tried to avoid it.
Police Major Mary Grace Marron said, "The driver was traveling along Marcos Highway when he fell asleep and went to the other lane. Unfortunately, the victim was there crossing the road."
The old man was taken to the hospital but he did not survive. According to his family, he had been a taxi driver for almost 40 years and had never been involved in an accident. He had just retired before the tragedy.
The driver is now in police custody and will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and damage to property. He may also face paying hundreds of thousands of pesos in compensation for the injuries and loss of life.
