The MV CASTPHILL XV caught fire in the ocean near Limbones Island, Nasugbu, Batangas on March 30, 2025.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the cargo vessel caught fire while underway. The BRP Boracay (FPB-2401) responded immediately and rescued the 7 crew members, including the captain, at around 4:27 AM.
The crew was taken to Pier 15, South Harbor, Manila and subjected to medical evaluation by the Coast Guard Medical Dispensary around 7:59 AM.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Transport Secretary Vince Dizon assured the government of its continued maritime safety efforts, especially at the PCG.
The PCG reaffirmed its dedication to the safety of seafarers and prompt response to emergencies.
