The Supreme Court upheld the life imprisonment of Peter Scully and Carme Ann Alvarez for recruiting two minors for sexual acts in 2014. In a decision of the 2nd Division issued on November 26, 2024, the court confirmed the verdicts from the Regional Trial Court and the Court of Appeals.
The court said that Scully and Alvarez abused the two girls, ages 9 and 12, and even filmed their activities on a laptop. They argued that it was not trafficking because it was for their own personal gain, but the court said that all the elements of qualified trafficking were present—especially the recruitment process without the victim's consent.
