A 34-year-old woman was arrested in Quezon City early Saturday morning for carnapping and estafa.
According to the Jose Abad Santos Police in Manila, there was a warrant of arrest against him dating back to 2022, but he was in hiding and was only arrested now.
Modus Operandi: Fake Car Dealer Scam
According to the PNP, the woman has an accomplice who is posing as a car dealer agent. Their style is that they will take the car from the house, then pass it on to a legitimate buyer.
Once sold, the accused will pretend that the vehicle was carnapped so that the buyer's money cannot be returned.
Ex-Boyfriend, Also a Victim
The investigation revealed that her ex-boyfriend was also deceived. The accused left her and fled in her boyfriend's car.
Admitted a Scam
The woman denied the charges, but she admitted to pawning the rented car without the owner's knowledge. She allegedly used P500,000 that she won from gambling.
Currently, he is in the custody of the Moriones-Tondo Police and will face Anti-Carnapping Law and other fraud cases.
