A junkshop in Barangay New Lower Bicutan, Taguig City caught fire early Monday morning. The damage caused by the incident is estimated at P40 million.
According to the barangay, most of the contents of the junkshop are plastic and cardboard, which are easily flammable.
"No residents were affected because firefighters immediately surrounded it," said Councilman Alfredo Enano. He added that the junkshop had been standing for a long time, since 2013.
Aside from the junkshop, the following also burned down:
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire was declared "fire under control" at around 5:21 AM after more than three hours of firefighting.
Fire Superintendent Melchor Isidro, City Fire Marshal of BFP Taguig, said firefighters had difficulty due to thick smoke from burning light materials such as cardboard, plastic, and plywood.
Some firefighters also had to use SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) due to the thickness of the smoke.
The fire has reached the third alarm, with 23 firetrucks responding.
Luckily, no one was injured or killed in the incident.
The BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire.
