Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa has pleaded with Senate President Chiz Escudero not to immediately surrender him if an ICC warrant is issued against him.
Although he is prepared to be arrested, Dela Rosa hopes that the Senate will protect him while they are still processing their petition to the Supreme Court requesting that former President Rodrigo Duterte not be arrested.
According to the Supreme Court, their request for a TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) lacked evidence, but they were given 10 days to provide further comments.
Dela Rosa stated that if Duterte is arrested, he will accompany him and take care of him.
As a former PNP Chief, Dela Rosa is considered the mastermind behind the anti-drug campaign that is said to have claimed nearly 30,000 lives.
"If President Duterte is imprisoned, I will go with him. No matter where he is taken, I will not leave him," Dela Rosa said.
As a former PNP Chief, Dela Rosa is considered one of the main masterminds in the controversial War on Drugs, which is said to have claimed nearly 30,000 lives.
Dela Rosa continued to emphasize that the anti-drug campaign has been meaningful and effective despite criticism from local and international groups.
"I believe we did this for the benefit of every Filipino," he added.
