Carl Lundstroem, a Swedish businessman and co-founder of the illegal file-sharing site The Pirate Bay, has died in a plane crash in Slovenia, according to the far-right party he is affiliated with.
Slovenian police confirmed to AFP on Wednesday, March 12, that they had found a body "probably that of the pilot, a Swedish citizen," but declined to confirm the identity until forensic research was complete.
The plane crash occurred on Monday, March 10 in a wooden cabin in the Velika Planina area in northern Slovenia. Due to bad weather, the recovery of the body was delayed until Tuesday, March 11
The Swedish far-right party Alternative for Swedensaid in a post that Lundstroem had died in the accident.
"Lundstroem, a legend and veteran of Swedish nationalism, passed away in a plane crash on Monday," the post said.
Lundstroem, 64 years old, took off in his Mooney M20 plane from Zagreb, Croatia, bound for Zurich, Switzerland.
Lundstroem is the grandson of the founder of Wasabroed, the largest producer of crispbread in the world.
Founded in 2003, The Pirate Bay allows users to avoid copyright fees and share music, movies, and other files using peer-to-peer links found on the site.
Sweden has repeatedly tried to stop the activities of The Pirate Bay.
Swedish courts have already handed down prison sentences and heavy fines to Lundstroem and the other founders.
