
Due to the extreme heat, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday reinstated the 30-minute "heat stroke break" for their field workers such as traffic enforcers and street sweepers.
This policy aims to protect employees against heat-related illnesses, especially now that high heat index.
According to MMDA Chairman Don Artes, will alternate the break of those assigned to one place to not affect the operation. The break will be implemented until May 31 and may be extended by 15 minutes if the heat index reaches 40 degrees Celsius and above Metro Manila.
The Department of Health (DOH) warns that the heat index of 42 to 51 degrees Celsius may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke if left untreated.
DOH advice to the public: avoid going outside from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
