Two Chinese nationals were arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Anti-Organized Crime Unit (CIDG-AOCU) in Parañaque City on Tuesday night for allegedly practicing medicine illegally.
Around 3 PM on February 25, the CIDG-AOCU together with the PNP Health Service, Forensic Group, and the local government of Parañaque entered a commercial building and arrested two Chinese. They are facing charges under The Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009 and The Medical Act of 1959.
The Senate plans to investigate the illegal practice of medicine by foreigners in the country.
According to the authorities, several boxes of medicine, medical supplies, surgical instruments, infusion alarms, ultrasound diagnostic systems, notebooks of medical procedures, and Chinese prescription receipts were confiscated from the suspects.
CIDG said, those caught could not show license and permit for selling medicine, operating a clinic, or practicing medicine.
The CIDG reportedly received a complaint about the sale or transfer of fake or mislabeled foods, drugs, devices, or cosmetics.
According to Police Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, director of CIDG, proper regulation of food, medicine, and cosmetics is important for public health.
"Fake doctors who treat people are dangerous. The practice of medicine is serious and should only be done by licensed professionals," said Torre.
The suspects will face charges under The Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009 and The Medical Act of 1959.
