Cassandra Li Ong's lawyer filed an ethics complaint against one of the co-chairmen of the House of Representatives Quad Committee for allegedly improper conduct as a lawmaker.
In a press conference, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio accused Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez of the incorrect statement directed at him.
"Legislators are responsible for the code of conduct, which says that a member of the House must act at all times in a manner that reflects credibility in the lower house," said Topacio.
Ong is one of the founders of Whirlwind Corp., which is connected to a Philippine offshore gaming operator hub in Porac, Pampanga.
“Seven people are blocking me so I can't get close to my client. Congressman Fernandez said, 'you will be cited for contempt.' What kind of kangaroo court is that?" according to Topacio.
He added that he did not file the complaint against Fernandez out of revenge, but "to fight for my constitutional rights and uphold the dignity of my profession... I just want to show some members of Congress that they cannot abuse their rights and privilege.”
Topacio also accused Fernandez of sending text messages to Ong.
“He was texting resource persons. He shouldn't do that. He should not contact the witness," Topacio added.
