Alice Guo, former mayor of Bamban, refused to plead guilty to the case of material misrepresentation filed against her in the Tarlac court.
Guo appeared before the Capas Regional Trial Court Branch 66 yesterday and pleaded "not guilty" to the charge.
Stephen David, Guo's lawyer, confirmed that he pleaded "not guilty" to the case filed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Guo is accused by the Comelec of violating Section 74 in relation to Section 262 of the Omnibus Election Code for allegedly falsely declaring his candidacy in the 2022 elections, despite his alleged Chinese citizenship.
The Comelec announced that Guo's fingerprint records matched the fingerprint of a Chinese woman named Guo Hua Ping.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia said, “The guilty plea was not expected. It is important that the process begins.” He added that the Comelec will pursue the case until the end.
The preliminary conference of Guo's case is set for February, with the Comelec Region 3 presiding over the trial.
