San Miguel Beer added new strength before its title defense in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, after acquiring Juami Tiongson and Andreas Cahilig from Terrafirma.
In exchange, the Beermen sent Terrence Romeo and Vic Manuel to the Dyip in a trade deal approved by the league yesterday.
Romeo described the event as one of the "saddest moments" in his career. He thanked San Miguel Corporation (SMC) for his successful stay with the team and Terrafirma for welcoming him.
Meanwhile, Ginebra strengthened their frontline by acquiring free agent Troy Rosario, who previously played for TNT and Blackwater.
At the age of 33, SMB gained another great long-range shooter in Tiongson, who could tandem with three-point king Marcio Lassiter. Tiongson is coming off a hamstring injury that sidelined him for four games with the Dyip during the Governors’ Cup, where he averaged 9.5 points with a 26.67% shooting from three-point territory and 3 assists.
Cahilig, who stands at 6'5" and is 33 years old, will bring defensive skills and hustle plays to SMB, eager to return to winning after falling short in the semifinals of the previous Governors’ Cup and losing the Philippine Cup crown to Meralco last season.
Meanwhile, Romeo, 32, and Manuel, 37, may get a new opportunity with Terrafirma after their struggles with injuries and being off-the-bench players during the previous conference with San Miguel.
