Alice Guo, the ousted mayor of Bamban, was diagnosed with a possible lung infection, according to Col. Jean Fajardo, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In an interview outside the Pasig City Jail on Monday, Fajardo explained that Guo underwent a medical examination before being transferred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). During this examination, they found a potential infection in his left lung.
Fajardo said, "As part of the protocol before handing him over to the BJMP, he had a medical and physical assessment conducted by the PNP General Hospital. The doctor found a possible infection in his left lung." He added that the BJMP will determine the proper treatment once Guo is admitted.
The PNP plans to conduct further testing to confirm the findings. The doctor said the infection may have developed last weekend, according to Guo's chest X-ray. He also showed mild cold symptoms and was coughing.
Fajardo mentioned that stress and fatigue may be factors affecting his condition. Guo cleared the medical exam on September 20, but his transfer was delayed due to legal proceedings.
According to Jayrex Bustinera, BJMP spokesperson, Guo will temporarily stay in a small isolation cell with three tuberculosis patients. The cell measures about 10 square meters, and the doctor recommends confirmatory tests, including the Gene-Xpert test. Other tests were negative.
"The Gene-Xpert lab test will be conducted today to confirm the suspension of tuberculosis in Guo's X-ray. If the result is negative, he will be transferred to a cell with 43 other detainees," Bustinera added.
Guo arrived at the female dormitory of the Pasig City Jail around 9:30 a.m. on Monday after spending more than two weeks at the PNP Custodial Facility. He is in BJMP uniform and wearing a mask.
