A dog in Barangay Lias, Marilao, Bulacan died in a brutal manner after being beaten, dragged, and set on fire by a man this Friday. According to the video shared by Avelina Reyes, the dog "Bruz" can be seen being hit by a tree branch.
The dog's owner immediately filed a complaint with Reyes as an eye witness, but later backed down. Fortunately, they approached Humane Philippines, a group that helps animals. The organization itself became the complainant against the suspect.
Tirzah Lim, president of Humane Philippines, said she called the Marilao Police Station the night of the incident to report it. She also submitted affidavits to the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office to continue the case.
Lim's reminder: "Animal cruelty is against the law. If you don't want to take care of animals, don't hurt them. All creatures have the right to be respected." He added that animals should be respected even if they are not owned.
According to PEMS. Noli Albis, the suspect was previously imprisoned in 2018 for drugs and was released in 2021. Now, he is detained again at the Marilao Police Station, and the public is reminded that the law is now stricter for animal abusers.
