The PNP is currently investigating a case of alleged “kidnap me” involving a Chinese in Manila. According to Col. Randulf Tuaño, a 41-year-old Chinese was reported to have been kidnapped on April 17 in exchange for a P500,000 ransom.
The two suspects — a Taiwanese and a Filipino — were caught in Parañaque on April 22. During the investigation, it emerged that the victim himself gave instructions to his co-workers to convert the ransom into cryptocurrency and send it to a crypto account.
Tuaño added that it is surprising because instead of the suspects asking for money, the victim herself ordered how it would be given. Even the informing the office that she would be gone for 2-3 days was allegedly ordered by the victim. Because of this, the suspicion that the kidnapping was just a show is growing stronger.
The victim was released on April 20 but has refused to cooperate with the PNP. He also said he did not want to file a complaint, which is why the police suspect that it was a "kidnap-me" incident. The PNP is still in talks with the company and people involved in the incident.
