Authorities have arrested a man who tried to smuggle two women out of the country to Cambodia. According to a report by the NBI, the three were pretending to be friends and were just going on vacation in Hong Kong this Easter.
But the immigration officer realized that their story was not true. It was also noticed that their answers were not consistent during the interview. So they were subjected to a thorough investigation and here they admitted the truth.
In reality, they were actually going to Cambodia because someone had recruited them to be encoders and call center agents. But according to the NBI, behind the job offer was working at a scam hub. Once in Hong Kong, someone would meet them on their way to Cambodia.
The man was charged with illegal recruitment and violation of the Anti-Human Trafficking Law. The NBI reminds people to avoid online offers with high wages, especially if going to Cambodia, Laos, or Thailand, as many are being cheated and abused.
