Mayor Atty. Joel Ruma of Rizal, Cagayan was dead after being shot by unknown suspects on April 23, 2025, while he was campaigning in Barangay Iluru Sur. According to initial investigation, the incident occurred at 9 p.m. while the Mayor was taking pictures with residents.
Amidst the celebration, the perpetrators suddenly arrived and fired on the group. The incident also killed two close aides of the mayor.
They were immediately rushed to the hospital but were also declared dead-on-arrival by doctors.
The police are still searching for the suspects and investigating the motive for the crime.
