Up to 1,800 families were left homeless after massive fires in Port Area and Tondo, Manila yesterday.
In Barangay 650, Port Area, a fire destroyed 200 houses in almost seven hours, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). Meanwhile, in Barangay 123, Tondo, 500 houses burned down within nine hours, and the cost of damage was estimated at P10 million.
The BFP said 300 families were affected in the Port Area, while 1,500 families in Tondo were displaced.
The fire started in the Port Area at 12:03 a.m., and in Tondo at 1:55 a.m.. Up to 51 firetrucks and rescue trucks responded. So far, the local government has built temporary shelters using iron and tarpaulin, while ensuring that victims receive free food and financial assistance every day.
