A truck loaded with copra collided with seven vehicles in Barangay Uno, Calamba, Laguna. According to Calamba police chief Lt. Col. Victor Sobrepeña, the truck was speeding and lost its brakes, causing it to slash three cars, one wing van, one SUV, one jeepney, and one motorcycle.
The truck stopped only when it hit the footbridge post. Due to the force of the impact, the driver, Jowel Balanac, died. He was immediately taken to the J.P. Rizal Hospital but was dead on arrival.
Also involved in the accident were two passengers, Ronel and Ryanel, who are now in critical condition in the hospital. Three other injured, Panao, Cai, and Maria Grace, were also rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The incident is a reminder to always check the brakes and condition of your vehicle before traveling—especially large trucks.
