Up to 270 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in the New Bilibid Prison received free legal aid from the Department of Justice Action Center (DOJAC).
Those who received assistance included senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and those with serious illnesses. This was done through the “Katarungan Caravan,” a program that aims to provide legal services to those in need.
According to DOJ Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez, this program is not just a simple service but a way of showing concern and loving fellow Filipinos.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, meanwhile, praised the project and the volunteer lawyers and law students who helped. “This shows our solidarity for justice and the importance of community participation in legal advocacy,” he said.
DOJAC partnered with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (Quezon City and Manila Chapters), San Sebastian College of Law, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and Philippine Law School to carry out this outreach.
