A rider was caught on video stealing a cellphone from a 16-year-old cyclist on Sumulong Highway, Antipolo City, this Saturday, past 7 a.m. In the video, the rider quickly fled after stealing the cellphone tucked into the victim's t-shirt. The owner of the video tried to chase the suspect, but due to the number of motorists present, he did not pursue it to avoid an accident.
According to the victim, when his jersey was pulled, he thought nothing but screaming in fear. "I was shaking, I almost fell, I felt like I was traumatized," the cyclist said. He added that the cellphone was a birthday gift from his parents, which is why he is in so much pain.
The victim's mother was also very worried, so they went to the Antipolo Police after the incident. "I was scared because what if he kicked my son's bike?," the mother said. According to Police Capt. Alnor Tagara, authorities are currently identifying the suspect using the dashcam video and MV number found on the back of the motorcycle. They hope to identify the owner of the motorcycle and file a case against the suspect.
The police once again reminded the public to be alert on the roads and be careful with valuable items to prevent such incidents of theft.
