Australian model Lucy Markovic has passed away, aged 27. Lucy was best known as the runner-up on Season 9 of Australia’s Next Top Model. She was also known for her runway and ad campaigns for Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Bulgari, Givenchy, and others.
In her agency's official Instagram post, she was described as a "bright shining light" with a dry sense of humor. They said, "Her smile and laughter could fill a room. She really loved to dance and shine." They added that they were honored to be a part of her modeling journey.
The agency also shared that Lucy has a long-standing illness: a rare condition called brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM). According to the Mayo Clinic, it is a tangle of blood vessels in the brain that can cause stroke or brain damage.
A few weeks before her death, Lucy posted a (now deleted) hospital photo where she said she was undergoing surgery for AVM. Her caption: "Full flood of emotions at this time. Life's a journey and I'm ready for the next chapter." She also revealed that she had been suffering from this disease for four years.
Apart from modeling, she also impressed everyone with her courage and zest for life, even though she was suffering from an illness. For now, the condolences of the entire fashion industry and her fans continue to her family and friends.
