The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that two Filipinos died after the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar last month. According to a report from the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, the identity of the second victim has been confirmed.
The DFA said it would not provide further details out of respect for the request of the deceased Filipino's family. Earlier, it was reported on Wednesday that one of the four missing OFWs in Mandalay, Myanmar was found dead.
Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega confirmed that the body was found Tuesday night. It was identified through a tattoo and passport with the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). According to the DFA, the repatriation of the body to the Philippines will be difficult due to the severe decomposition of the body.
Two more Filipinos are still being searched by authorities in Myanmar. In total, the earthquake caused more than ₱186 million in damage (based on $3,000+ estimated casualties), and the confirmed death toll in the disaster has reached more than 3,000 people.
