A five-year-old child went outside the jail in Santiago, Agusan del Norte to show her graduation gown and cap to her mother who is incarcerated. The girl is currently being cared for by her aunt, and the scene was a fulfillment of her mother's wish to see her daughter on her important graduation day.
The video shows the child standing in a spot where his mother can see him from the second floor of the prison. The mother puts her hand out through the gap in the bars, as if wanting to reach her child. Although they cannot get close, the love and longing for each other are palpable.
According to the aunt, the child's mother was imprisoned for 10 months due to her involvement in a drug-related case last year. She was not the target of the raid but was found at the house, which is why she was implicated.
They were unable to enter the prison to visit because they did not have the budget for the food that is usually brought when visitors come. “They said they could enter, but because they did not have money—sometimes they would just talk for a while at the window,” the aunt said in a Facebook post.
