Globe Telecom and GCash have issued a warning about scams that use screen sharing and shoulder surfing to obtain MPIN, OTP, and other sensitive information.
According to them, there are scammers who pretend to be legit people and convince the victim to turn on screen sharing on messaging apps. While the user is using GCash or online banking, the scammer takes advantage of the opportunity to copy the login info.
Another style of scam is called “shoulder surfing,” where the scammer secretly looks at the phone screen of people, especially small business owners who have online transactions.Another style of scam is called “shoulder surfing,” where the scammer secretly looks at the phone screen of people, especially small business owners who have online transactions.
To avoid this scam, users are reminded to not give out MPIN or OTP, not click suspicious links, and not show the phone screen when making a financial transaction.
If you have experienced or seen a scam, you may report it to the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group. For GCash users, you may visit the Help Center, message “Gigi” with “I want to report a scam,” or call the 2882 hotline.
