Manuel Masalva, a well-known actor from Narcos: Mexico, is currently in a medically induced coma due to a severe bacterial infection he may have contracted while in the Philippines. According to Deadline, Masalva is in critical but stable condition and is in a hospital in Dubai.
Masalva's manager, Jaime Jaramillo Espinosa, CEO of Mexican management agency JIM Management, told the Los Angeles Times that Masalva arrived in Dubai on March 18 from the Philippines. He began to feel internal discomfort and pain that worsened every day. When it was determined that the infection had reached his lungs, he underwent emergency surgery on March 26 and was placed in a medically induced coma.
According to Espinosa, Masalva's lungs are responding well to the antibiotics he is being administered. "His respirator has dropped to 80%, which means his lungs are reacting positively," he said.
As prayers continue for Masalva, his family has launched a GoFundMe page to help with the actor's expenses. Mario Morán, a close friend and co-performer, posted a message on Instagram that his "brother" continues to fight for his life, far from home, and in need of financial assistance.
Masalva, besides being part of Narcos: Mexico, is also known for the shows La Rosa de Guadalupe and La Guzmán. On March 14, she shared some photos from her vacation in the Philippines and called it one of the "best experiences of her life."
