A couple and their two children died in a fire that broke out in their house in Bernabe Compound, Barangay Pulang Lupa Uno, Las Piñas City on April 7, 2025, just after 2 a.m. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), a couple 38-year-old and 35-year-old, along with their two young children, a 17-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, were found on the second floor of the burned-out house.
The BFP is investigating the cause of the fire, but they say it could have been caused by overheating or faulty wiring. According to Fire Superintendent Josephus Alburo, City Fire Marshal of Las Piñas, there was a wooden mezzanine above where the couple was staying. This mezzanine collapsed and caused their deaths. "You can see that the family's house is concrete, but it has a mezzanine," Alburo added.
The victim's brother, Genaro Lucero, said his brother had come from a celebration near their house. When he saw the fire, he tried to save the family but was unable to get out because the intense flames had hit their kitchen. "I wanted to go in to help them, but someone pulled me down," Lucero said.
Genaro's older brother even tried to enter the burning fire to save his family, but he couldn't get out. "I just shouted for my older brother, I couldn't stop him," Genaro added.
The fire started on the second floor of the house, where several fire trucks responded. After about 30 minutes, the BFP declared the incident fire out.
