A man's visit to his girlfriend's house in Valencia, Negros Oriental turned into a brutal tragedy. According to reports, the bride's 83-year-old grandfather mistook his grandson for a thief and shot him, resulting in the victim's instant death.
The incident occurred while the 36-year-old man and his girlfriend were talking in the living room. It is not yet clear what happened next, but the man entered the girlfriend's bedroom where her grandfather was sleeping. When the old man woke up, he thought the man was a thief, so he shot him.
The incident resulted in the victim's immediate death and the grandfather was arrested and is currently in custody facing charges of murder and illegal possession of a firearm. The victim's family expressed anger and said that their relative was not a thief, that although there was a previous case, it was not related to the robbery.
Due to high blood pressure, the grandfather's family did not allow him to be interviewed. There was also no statement from the man's girlfriend regarding the incident.
