Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in the US have been delayed due to new tariffs. According to Nintendo's announcement, they will not start pre-orders until April 9, 2025 to review the impact of tariffs and market conditions. But don't worry, the official launch date has not changed — it's still June 5, 2025.
Many people were excited about Nintendo's Direct livestream — there were GameCube games returning and a new FromSoftware game exclusive. But not everyone was happy. Many fans were surprised by the $450 price tag for the Switch 2, which is 50% more expensive than the original Switch in 2017. Even after considering inflation, the increase was still high. Many fans posted “DROP THE PRICE” in the livestream comments.
Nintendo said that while waiting for updates on tariffs, only the US is affected by the delay in pre-orders. Other countries are still continuing. Based on a Forbes report, Nintendo has tried to move production to Vietnam to avoid tariffs from China. But the new tariff in Vietnam is even higher — 46%, compared to 34% in China.
There are no final price changes yet, but there is a chance that the price of the Switch 2 in the US will increase. Stay tuned for more updates from Nintendo.
