Sad news! A 9-year-old girl died hours after undergoing general anesthesia for a dental procedure at Dreamtime Dentistry in Vista.
According to a report by the San Diego Police Department, after the procedure, the child was taken to the recovery room before being allowed to go home. While at home, he did not wake up and was found unconscious by his parents, who immediately called 911.
He was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital, but was pronounced dead. According to Dr. Ryan Watkins, the clinic’s dentist, the child was in stable condition when discharged and all post-anesthesia protocols were followed. They are continuing to work with authorities to determine the full details of the incident.
According to Dr. Michael Davis, an expert in dental malpractice, general anesthesia is more dangerous for children because their airways are narrower compared to adults. Experts are asking not to speculate and to wait for official information while the investigation continues.
