A rare case of organ transplant occurred in Michigan, USA, where a patient died of rabies after receiving a donated organ.
According to health officials, it was determined that the rabies virus came directly from the organ donor. Although there was a screening process before the transplant, the infection was not immediately detected.
Rabies is a fatal disease transmitted by a virus from the saliva or wounds of an infected animal. It usually causes fever, hallucinations, and difficulty swallowing before eventually causing death.
Although this case is rare, it highlights the challenges in organ donation screening. People who had contact with the patient, including medical staff, have already undergone preventive treatment to avoid infection.
