The murderer of Latin pop star Selena Quintanilla-Pérez has not been granted parole, according to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.
Yolanda Saldívar, 64, was the former president of Selena's fan club who was found guilty of robbing and murdering her on March 31, 1995.
After 30 years in prison, he was only recently eligible for parole. But according to the parole board, he remains a threat to the public and was not allowed to be released. His next chance is in 2030.
Selena's family expressed gratitude for the decision:
“No one can bring Selena back, but this decision is proof that there is justice for her short but beautiful life.”
For now, Saldívar will continue to serve his life sentence in Texas.
