A baby had three fingers amputated after his mother slept with the hairdryer left on, causing severe burns to his legs.
According to a report by the South China Morning Post on March 17, the mother, identified as Wu, is set to be jailed for negligence. While drying the baby's wet bed with a hairdryer, she fell asleep and unknowingly let the heat hit the child's legs.
Wu woke up to find that his son had blisters on his legs. He immediately called the authorities and took the child to the hospital.
According to doctors, 15.5% of the baby's body was burned, causing permanent damage to the skin. As a result, they had to amputate three toes on the child's left foot.
During the trial, Wu said the incident was unintentional because she fell asleep after taking medication for her post-partum depression. However, the judge noted that she should have expected the baby to move in the bed.
