A 30-year-old man was arrested in Tondo, Manila after he held his younger brother hostage along C.M. Recto Avenue on the afternoon of Monday, March 17, 2025.
In a video taken by a bystander, the suspect can be seen holding his brother's shorts while holding a knife in his hand.
According to Moriones-Tondo Police, the two brothers got into an argument after the victim refused to drop his older brother off at their uncle's in Quiapo. As a result, the suspect pulled his brother over and pulled out a sword.
The incident lasted 30 minutes before the suspect surrendered after asking to see his mother.
No one was injured in the incident, and the young brother was released safely.
It was learned that the suspect had previously been imprisoned for various charges, including the use of illegal drugs.
The suspect expressed remorse for his actions.
“I apologize to my brother and mother. I'm sorry,” the suspect said.
