Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, was allowed to return home to Dubai after he was arrested in France in August 2024. He was accused of failing to properly control illegal activities on the app, including drug trafficking, child sexual abuse content, and fraud. Durov has vehemently denied these allegations.
After staying in France for several months, Durov was allowed to leave after temporarily suspending his obligations under judicial supervision from March 15 to April 7. No details have been given yet about the conditions of his release.
From his home in Dubai, Durov thanked the French judges and also praised his lawyers for their "relentless efforts" in showing that Telegram complied with and even exceeded legal obligations in moderation and fighting crime.
