According to DA Spokesman Arnel de Mesa, this is possible because of:
- Rice price drop in the global market
- Revival of the peso
The price of rice will not be affected by the fall in the SRP.
Farmers Affected
Three farmers in Nueva Ecija attempted suicide because of the P15 per kilo price of rice.
Farmers are demanding:
- Stop importing rice this harvest
- Implement safeguard duties to limit the entry of cheap rice
Biofertilizer as a Solution
According to National Scientist Emil Javier, the DA should use the P2 billion budget to promote Bio N biofertilizer which will save P2,500 per hectare for farmers.
