Jing Shan, 32, was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration for overstaying. He was caught this Thursday, March 13, in front of his residence in Brgy. Palanan, Makati City. According to immigration records, Jiang arrived in the country as a tourist in May 2023 but failed to extend his visa after it expired in September 2023. When he was caught, he could not show any valid immigration documents, so he was immediately taken to the detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig City while awaiting his deportation proceedings.
Jiang's arrest is related to the death of a community cat named "Ken" at Ayala Triangle Gardens. In a viral video, Jiang can be seen kicking the resting cat, which later died from the injuries. This angered the public and many expressed their condemnation of the incident. There are also reports that Jiang was arrogant and refused to give his information to people at the scene of the incident.
“Filipinos are known for being hospitable to our guests... But guests should not come to our homes to hurt our loved ones,” said Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado. He added that due to Jiang's brutality, the BI conducted a background check and found him to be overstaying, so he is now incarcerated and will face deportation.
