Popular Chinese restaurant chain Haidilao has apologized and issued a refund after a video of a customer urinating in hotpot at its Shanghai branch went viral. The incident, which occurred on February 24, sparked public outrage over a food safety violation.

According to Haidilao, two 17-year-old males were involved in the incident and both were placed under "administrative detention." Because the staff did not have sufficient training for this type of situation, they did not immediately notice the incident.
As an action, Haidilao offered a full refund plus 10x compensation to over 4,100 customers who placed orders from February 24 to March 8. However, netizens criticized the company's slow response to the incident.
