Petecio and fellow boxer Aira Villegas received the President's Award from the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) during their annual awards night held at the Manila Hotel.
In his speech, Petecio also praised Carlos Yulo, who won two gold medals and was named 2024 PSA Athlete of the Year.
"Caloy, I'm super proud of your two golds. That's my dream too and I know I'll get it someday," said Petecio.
The PSA also presented the award to former Olympians from 1964 to 2024, represented by Freddie Webb, a former senator and basketball icon.
"As I looked at you here earlier, I said to myself, these are the people who shaped my dream of becoming an Olympian," Petecio added.
Petecio is the first Filipino boxer to win two Olympic medals, after taking home a silver in his debut at Tokyo 2020.
