The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA)released a new logo on March 7, as part of their 43rd anniversary. According to MIAA, the logo change symbolizes their shift from being the operator to being the regulator of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
They also showed a breakdown of the design, which features the Philippine eagle, the colors and symbols of the flag of the Philippines, and a green laurel wreath.
But instead of praising it, netizens criticized it.
On MIAA's Facebook post, it garnered more than 5,600 reactions, mostly Haha. reactions.
Many negative comments have appeared:
- "Very elementary."
- "The basic thing is paid for."
- "Only stock designs were used?"

Netizens also noticed that the logo used looks like a stock image from VectorStock and Shutterstock—which can only be purchased for $15 (P860)
Due to the amount of criticism, MIAA has now limited comments on their post.
How much was spent?
Based on the MIAA's Annual Procurement Plan for 2025, they have allocated:
- P3 million for the rebranding campaign
- P2 million for creative design services and social media content
Has anyone won before?
There was a logo-making contest in 2023!
Christian San Jose, a multimedia artist, won the contest and posted his thoughts on Facebook.
- "Very disappointing."
- "What's the point of awarding if it's not going to be used?"
He also shared the design rationaleof his logo—an airplaneshape that symbolizes the four terminals of NAIA.
New NAIA Management
On September 14, 2024, the operation of NAIA was officially taken over by the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC), a group led by San Miguel Corporation.

They plan to:
- Rehabilitate NAIA
- Expand Terminals 2 and 3
- Turn Terminal 4 into warehouse and office
- Build an Airport Express Hotel near Terminal 2
They have reached an agreement with the government for a 15-year contract, which can be extended for 10 years. P200 billion will be spent on the project.
What is the MIAA's response?
MIAA has not yet made an official statement on the issue. PhilSTAR L!fe has requested a statement but has not received a response from them yet.
