
Former Taiwanese actor and singer Lee Wei and his wife Chien have been indicted in a case of murder in relation to a woman connected to a Buddhist group they belong to.
At first, Lee was only considered a witness, but after several investigations, he and his wife were officially declared suspects. The authorities also searched their residence.
According to a report by Focus Taiwan, Lee was released on NT$300,000 (P531,166) bail while his wife is NT$150,000 bail.
The incident happened on July 2024, where the victim Tsai was found unconscious in a residential block in Taipei. Based on the autopsy, he died of rhabdomyolysis, a rare condition related to excessive muscle fatigue.
Four of the 11 suspects are currently in custody since January.
Lee Wei rose to fame in the 2001 Taiwanese series Toast Boy's Kiss, and had several TV roles in Spicy Teacher, Sweet Lemon, and Singles Dormitory.
He stepped away from showbiz when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and became a faithful Buddhist follower.
