Sonos announced the layoff of 200 employees in a letter published on its site Wednesday. This news follows an earlier layoff of 100 people in August. The same round of deletions came after a major Sonos app update failure, which alienated their loyal fanbase from premium audio hardware.
The letter was written by Tom Conrad, who was Pandora's first CTO and is currently interim CEO after Patrick Spence stepped down in January. According to Conrad, the size of the company has caused a lack of proper communication, saying, "One of the things I've seen is that we've become overloaded with layers that make collaboration and decision-making difficult."
After the delays, a report surfaced Tuesday that Sonos is preparing to release a set-top box/home hub codenamed "Pinewood." Currently in beta testing, the system is expected to be released in 2025 and is priced between ₱11,000 to ₱22,000.
