The “miracles of revival” in the motorcycle world are rare, but the Aprilia Shiver 900 broke the norm. After a five-year hiatus, it's officially back as a 2025 model but with one important limitation — it's only sold exclusively in China.
The return of this medium-weight street bike is full of stories. Over the past three years, many reports have circulated about the revival of the model. From rumors, changes of plan, and rebranding, it was finally announced in China this 2025 while still carrying the iconic Aprilia logo.
Actually, in 2022, Piaggio (the parent company of Aprilia) announced its collaboration with Zongshen, a Chinese company, for the production of a new 900cc twin-cylinder bike. As early as 2021, Zongshen-Piaggio already presented the Cyclone RA9 concept bike based on the Shiver, and also released a version with Gilera branding, another classic Piaggio brand.

Developments accelerated, and in 2023, Zongshen-Piaggio registered two design patents: one for the "Shiver 900" and another for the "GLR900." Although there was doubt about the brand, the final version of the motorcycle remained under Aprilia.
The 2025 Shiver 900 is almost identical to the last model in 2020. However, it has had some upgrades such as the use of LED headlights, side panels from GLR900, and keyless start with smart key.
Although made in China, its price is not "budget-friendly". The official price in China is 68,800 RMB (₱520,000 or $9,500 USD), more expensive compared to local competitors like the CFMOTO 800NK which is only $6,150. Despite this, Aprilia carries the reputation of Italian engineering, which is still popular with riders looking for a premium big bike experience.
Will the Shiver 900 be available in other countries? So far, no news. But this move shows that China is moving into the more high-end motorcycle market. If the model is successful in China, we may see it return to the west in the future.
