More popular K-drama stars have joined the cast of the new series led by Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo, further boosting the show's star power, Netflix announced Monday while also announcing its streaming.
In a press release, Netflix said that Kim Seol-hyun, Cha Seung-won, and Lee Hanee are already among the cast of the series tentatively titled "Show Business."
According to Korean media reports, shooting of the project began in January, which brought buzz with the casting of Gong Yoo and Hye-kyo as the main characters.
The story is set in the bitter and intense world of the Korean entertainment industry in the 1960s and 1980s. The series follows "the journey of individuals who, despite adversity, dream of success and pour their all into it," according to Netflix.
In the series, Hye-kyo, known for the revenge drama "The Glory," will play Min-ja, a strong woman shaped by a difficult youth. He is determined to make his mark in the Korean music industry.
Gong Yoo, known for works such as "Goblin" and "Squid Game," will play Dong-gu, Min-ja's childhood friend who will also pursue a career in the music industry. Although impulsive and unpredictable, Dong-gu has a soft heart for Min-ja.
Seol-hyun, who rose to fame as a member of K-pop girl group AOA, will play Min-hui, who has a love-hate relationship with Min-ja since childhood.
"Our Blues" star Cha Seung-won will play Gil-yeo, a brilliant composer, while "The Fiery Priest" actress Lee Hanee will play Yang-ja, Min-ja's mother who also dreams of becoming a singer.
The series is written by popular screenwriter Noh Hee-kyung, who also created hit dramas such as "It's Okay, That's Love" and "Our Blues."
Netflix has yet to announce the show's premiere date.
