Royal Enfield, the world's top motorcycle brand, is entering the world of electric vehicles (EV) and has announced its first electric motorbike – the Flying Flea.
The Indian motorcycle company – originally founded in England in 1901 – has teamed up with technology giant Qualcomm to create a custom version of the “Car-to-Cloud Platform” operating system for motorcycles, resulting in an experience dedicated and fully adapted for two wheels. Royal Enfield and Qualcomm's collaboration will also lead to the introduction of a new chip, the Snapdragon QWM2290, which will debut at the Flying Flea.
During a roundtable at CES 2025, Royal Enfield's Mario Alvisi told Hypebeast that the two brands' partnership is the "perfect fusion of authentic design and cutting-edge technology." Alvisi went on to say that one of his goals is to turn Royal Enfield's EV bikes into a "valuable asset", something he thinks will be made easier by over-the-air technology updates, which will provide road to the motorcycle brand to keep updating and improving the bike remotely.
The rider's phone can be used to both unlock and start the motorcycle, and it will have five pre-set ride modes that users can customize. And even though the motorcycle's operating system is based on a version of Android, it will be fully compatible with both iOS and Android.
There isn't much information about the motorcycle at the moment – we don't know the motor power (or equivalent horsepower), and the price hasn't been revealed yet. Wait for updates in the next few days.
