A user-made LEGO PlayStation 2 set has garnered enough attention on the LEGO Ideas site for the toymaker to consider making it real, according to PushSquare.
The set, created by a user named RippleDrive, got the necessary 10,000 backers to enter LEGO's review phase, where designers decide whether the concept will continue in development.
The mock-up set currently consists of 2,043 pieces, making up the PlayStation 2 console, a DualShock 2 controller, and memory cards that are roughly the size of their real equivalents.
The design is particularly interactive: memory card covers can be removed, memory cards can be inserted into the gaming system itself, controllers can be attached to the device, and the disc tray can open and close. Additionally, the top of the console can be removed to get a closer look at the system components.
On the LEGO Ideas platform, RippleDrive shared the purpose behind his creation: “The reason I chose to make the PS2 is because I have many fond memories of playing the PS2 as a child and also as an adult, because it's my favorite video game console of all time. The PS2 celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2020, so that's another reason why I chose to build this model.”
If LEGO approves the design, it also needs to get approval from Sony before it can be released to market. Stay tuned for updates.
