To be released in the spring of next year, the film will bring back the original Karate Kid star, Ralph Macchio, who played Daniel LaRusso in 1984's Karate Kid. He will be joined by Jackie Chan, who played Mr. Han in the 2010 remake starring Jaden Smith. American Born Chinese star Ben Wang will play Li Fong, Daniel and Mr. Han's new martial arts protégé.

The official synopsis of the film is as follows:
"After a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong is forced to leave his home in Beijing and move to New York City with his mother. Li struggles to forget the past as he tries to adapt to the new Although he doesn't want to fight, trouble seems to find him wherever he goes. When a new friend needs help, Li enters a karate competition. In the trailer, it was shown how Macchio and Chan's characters are connected. Daniel can be heard asking Mr. Han, "You know Mr. Miyagi?" Han replied, “I'm not here for Sensei Miyagi. I'm here for you.”
