While Arcane, the League of Legends series by Riot Games and Netflix, may have ended, the video game developer is already working on three new TV series.
This was confirmed by Arcane showrunner Christian Linke, who told streamer Necrit94 that one of the three shows began pre-production a year ago. "Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia will have their own shows, and they are the next steps in this cinematic universe," he added. "We’re far from done; we’re really expanding, looking at each region, and now we have the capability to build a slate to tell new stories and continue others."
(Spoilers ahead, so be cautious if you haven’t finished Arcane season two): There are no additional details yet about the upcoming shows, but with the conclusion of the stories of Jinx, Ekko, Vi, Mel, and other characters from Arcane, one story that could be expanded from the first series is Mel's return to her home in Noxus after betraying her mother, Ambessa, and the mysterious Black Rose organization.
Linke had announced earlier, much to the disappointment of fans, that Arcane would conclude with season two as they look for other stories to explore within the League of Legends universe. "From the very beginning, since we started this project, we always had a clear ending in mind, so the story of Arcane will conclude in the second season," he said. "But Arcane is just the beginning of a larger story, and our collaboration with the amazing animation studio Fortiche continues."
Arcane received widespread acclaim from both critics and viewers, with season one making history as the first streaming series to win an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program.
