Valve has launched a new, limited edition of the Steam Deck OLED, a year after announcing the enhanced version of their game-changing handheld device. This edition features an upgraded OLED display, providing richer colors and improved contrast for an immersive gaming experience.
It arrives just in time for the holidays, featuring a new look that contrasts with the original all-black palette of the Deck, predominantly in white. It is enhanced by grey accents found on the triggers, analog sticks, and buttons on the front and back of the device, as well as a pop of orange on the power button that breaks up the monochrome design.
The new batteries feature a 10Whr improvement compared to the batteries in the LCD models, providing 3-12 hours of battery life (depending on the games being played). This also means that users of the new edition will experience the same stunning 7.4-inch, 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display found in the original, with vibrant colors, super-contrast blacks, and a 90Hz refresh rate for ultra-smooth gaming. Best of all, this display—available only in the 1TB OLED models—uses premium anti-glare etched glass, unlike the standard glass in the 512GB model.
The etched glass in the 1TB model reduces reflections and glare from sunlight, allowing gamers to play more comfortably in brighter environments.
Like all Steam Deck OLED models, the new special white and grey model features a Wi-Fi 6E module that provides a faster wireless internet connection compared to the Wi-Fi 5 module found in the LCD models. This will enhance the overall user experience for web-related activities such as cloud gaming and downloads, as well as boost the device's future-proofing by utilizing more advanced technology.
The new model comes with an exclusive white carrying case, as well as a unique startup video and virtual keyboard theme that are exclusive to this model. Other accessories included in the box are a 45W power supply, a 2.5m (8.2ft) cable, and a special white microfiber cleaning cloth, of course.
Valve emphasized the limited nature of this new model, stating that they "will not produce more of this specific design" once their stock runs out, and they were quite emphatic in saying, "when we are sold out, we are sold out." As a result, Valve is limiting purchases to one per Steam account, and as an additional measure against scalpers and resellers, they stated that "accounts must have made a Steam purchase before November 2024 and be in good standing to qualify."
The “Limited Edition White” Steam Deck OLED is now available worldwide directly via Steam at a price of £599 GBP / $679 USD / €719 EUR. Fans in Asia can purchase it through Komodo.
