On Tuesday, Bose announced its acquisition of McIntosh Group, the owner of luxury audio brands McIntosh and Sonus Faber. With this move, Bose expands its reach as a global tech leader to a higher level.
Although Bose is known for its reliable headphones and home speakers, the products from McIntosh Group are typically in the premium market. According to Bose, McIntosh makes "the best audio devices in the world," including amplifiers, loudspeakers, and turntables. The luxury level offered by the company is evident in the Italian-made Suprema loudspeakers from Sonus Faber, priced at $750,000 USD, and several McIntosh turntables reaching up to $12,000 USD.
In an official statement, the potential for innovation was highlighted, particularly in the automotive sector. Bose, known for its premium audio systems in vehicles from brands like Porsche, Honda, Kia, and Fiat, will collaborate with McIntosh Group to enhance research and create truly immersive in-car experiences that will redefine automotive sound.
In addition to continuing their consumer devices, Bose will also have the opportunity to accelerate innovations in noise cancellation, hearing augmentation, and immersive audio—technologies that address the growing market demand.
